HOW TO MAKE PERCOLATION PIT TO STORE WATER IN GROUND

What is water harvesting? 

water harvesting is the process of storing water in a container or a place such as earth surface. Earth comprises of 96% water in oceans, 2to 3% water in rivers and lakes which is fit for irrigation and domestic uses and remaining 2% water in ground level which is fit to drink and daily uses. 

Why you have to create a water harvesting? 

In so many countries and places the water shortage problems occurring as there is no underground water in that areas due to so many bores where present to depth of greater than 100 feet in so many areas and there are using water from ground more than recharging it with rain water. 

As rain water is the source of ground level as it enters into soil through aquifers. Most of us don't know how to harvest water into ground . It is a simple process to create such a water harvest pit. 

The drinking water preset in ground is due to aquifers. 

Aquifers is  a body of permeable rock which can contain or transmit groundwater throughout the area due to which ground water is available otherwise there would be no ground water below the ground surface.

we came to know how the water is transported inside the earth  surface. Now, let me tell you how to prepare your own recharge pit i.e. water harvesting pit to store water in ground surface. It is a technique of storing rain water into ground during raining season to be utilised afterwards for the usage of ground water after few days after rain. By using the following technique of storing water one can store thousands to lakhs of liter of water can be stored in ground due to the rains fall on your terrace and roof.

Today I will discuss the process of storing water using ground using percolation technique.

PERCOLATION:

  Percolation is a process of storing water in ground by filtering the rain water into fresh water by filtering techniques. To prepare this percolation pit in your home.

 place you need a take make this one comprises width of 4 feet, length of 6 feet and depth of 8 feet, you have to dig a pit of the mentioned size as above in your place near to your home so that the pipeline coming from rooftop directs the water into the pit. 

After digging the pit you have to place 80mm ballast in the pit up to a height of 4 feet only, the ballast rock has to be unevenly place in the pit without any sand in the pit and the surface of pit has to be smooth, after filling up to 50% you have to place 60 mm granite or ballast rod for 4 feet and surface has to be flattened, after it you have to place 40  mm ballast up to 2 feet and make the surface fat evenly. now place a nylon mesh on 40 mm ballast surface to prevent sand falling into it after it you have to dig 1 feet around the pit and construct a wall with bricks and cement  and take care that no cement particle must enter into pit by placing rice bag cover like that place in pit while constructing the wall about 9 inches outside the rocks you have placed up to one feet above ground level, after the wall gets strong and rigid and now you can place a sand up to 2 inches of height and 1 inches of height of coarse or baby  sand and loose sand respectively and connect the roof top water pipe to the wall you have created around the pit.

you have to place the above setup as mentioned because you are creating a aquifers to allow water to pass and move into ground trough all levels evenly and this method of setup cleans the water at various levels and forms into pure water. 

One has to dry clean the roof top frequently to prevent the flow of dust present on roof top which will form like slit and block the passage of water to move through percolation pit and the water level will come out of the wall that you have build while creating the pit. 

If you properly maintain roof top than the amount of rain falling on roof top come directly into the pit through pipeline from roof and the water gets filtered and go into ground level evenly if the rain fall for 2 to 3 days also the water gets deposited into ground without coming out of pit wall.

By doing this kind of setup you will provide value to the world in contributing ground water and protecting the people from water crises. As one uses water daily, without water a day cant be survived by a person.
